"The Cherry Orchard offer a lush brand of pop that falls in the
Belle And Sebastian realm at times, but with a hint of reverence for
the orchestrated pop of the likes of Burt Bacharach. A "boy/girl"
duo where it's actually the "boy" singing (now that's a switch!),
the sounds from The Cherry Orchard are not only cool and exotic, but
loaded with an irresistible charm and style that makes for some satisfying
listening". Shake It Up ! (usa)
" loads
of subtle, clever, pastoral pop songs " Chickfactor

"Super summery sounds from Cambridge's Cherry Orchard. Lightweit
sounds and romantic lyrics on english pop that never tries to be anything
it isn't. Several songs are nicely bolstered by a tidy bit of trumpet
and there's and excellent production and use of light and shade throughout."

"When
you put on Cherry Orchard's new album, "The World Is Such A Groovy
Place," there is scant belief that a band you have never heard
of can make such imperiously perfect moments of pop-confection. The
songs are all lightweight numbers meant as frivolous background music.
Not intrusive and yet strangely addictive, the sugary taste twirls in
your mouth; this album is guaranteed to please anybody with half-decent
tastes in pop music.
Drawing more from '60s influences such as Burt Bacharach, Herman's Hermits,
and The Left Banke, and less from Y2K Brit-a-likes, the tracks seem
to encompass a strong feeling of familiarity. An example being "The
Thrill Was All Mine," with its horns and finger snaps played against
a suitably cheesy tune that will have you bopping along.
"Love Among The Stars" is sheer pop heaven, while the sublime
"Tonight" takes your breath away. The duo of Jason Smith and
Sara Onyett get the mix of their vocal interplay to sheer perfection.
The lounge-y feel of some of the songs might not appeal to all, but
for those who enjoy their music candy-coated, each song is a self-contained
cherry bomb that explodes to reveal layers of textures.
Besides the obvious Bacharach-ian tendencies, the music also contains
more than a tinge of Nancy Sinatra, such as on the title track, filled
to the brim with marimbas and cooing vocals from Sara.
Need a little something for seductive moments with a lady? Then slip
on "Something Special" and bring on the champagne to sweep
her off her feet.
In this modern pop marketplace where you will need loads of exposure
for a crummy song to be liked by millions of unsuspecting teens, it
is hard to put up a case for a band that will never get rotation anywhere
except in lonely bedrooms. Yet, it will be your loss for missing out.
Bright, breezy, and poppy. The world is a groovy place when Cherry Orchard
is playing. --
