Following the unexpected success of “Soirée Cocktail”, the exotic Bossanova compilation, Les Disques Aquatic is proud to present “Soirée de Noël”, its new compilation dedicated to Christmas, the most magical period of the year...
As for “Soirée Cocktail”, this compilation is co-released in Japan by L’Appareil-Photo bis ( ST ETIENNE, FANTASTIC PLASTIC MACHINE, BERTRAND BURGALAT etc...).
No need to say how eager the bands were to pay their tribute to Santa Claus !
Some of them chose the classical pop option with some sweet melodies, divine backing vocals and happy feelings, while others emphasized the spacy and dreamy side of Christmas. Included, are also a few songs revealing a less obvious interpretation of Christmas emotions; the result being an eclectic and intriguing part of the compilation.
So for the years to come, expect to leave your old Xmas standards untouched, to enjoy our very stylish collection of fresh and sparkling tunes that will accompany your snowy Xmas evenings !

01. PURPLE SUBMARINE ORCHESTRA ( France ) “Snowflakes fall and dance the Christmas waltz”
This new french band is in fact formed by the two lead members of FANTASTIC ! They brilliantly open the compilation with a gorgeous instrumental adorned with some divine Brian Wilson inspired backing vocals. First album due to be released in 2003 by Les Disques Aquatic.

02. RITA CALYPSO ( Spain ) “Christmas is the day”
After the release of their first album on Siesta, this mysterious band offers a sweet cover of the Sixties band FREE DESIGN: a pure delight !

03. THE CHERRY ORCHARD ( England ) “Snowflake’s falling”
Being one of the most romantic band ever, The Cherry Orchard just had to be on this compilation... As always, they have favoured us with a gorgeous melody that will keep you singing all day long.

04. THE GENTLE PEOPLE ( England ) “Gentle Xmas”
The electro-lounge english gang takes us straight to heaven with this outerspace track. Enjoy this special Xmas language lesson with the sensual French and British voices of Gentle People’s female lead singers.

05. HYPLAR ( Greece ) “Xmas dazzle”
A catchy and funny danceable track: we definatly want to spend Christmas Eve with Hyplar and throw a huge party !!!

06.VALVOLA & PLUG-IN ROCKETS ( Italy ) “White Xmas shake” ( version # 1)
Well, what kind of Xmas memories could have inspired this song ? It seems that Valvola is not giving us any clues here. But hey, this is a great electro tune reminding us of LADYTRON, so why should we even wonder about it ???

07. AURINIO ( Greece ) “One thousand snowflakes”
Far from the usual happy vision of Christmas, Aurinio reminiscise about childhood sad memories... They deliver a deep melancholic instrumental.

08. BAXENDALE ( England ) “Solo record”
A treat from Baxendale while waiting resolutely for their second album to come. For our biggest pleasure, our favourite electro-digital-pop superstars kept to their very own style to compose a 100% Baxendale Xmas tune.

09. THE CROONER ( Greece ) “New Year’s wishes”
Obviously, some people always rank Love as number one present on their Xmas gifts list... Hopefully Santa will bring it to The Crooner this year. For sure, this romantic song is the best way to find it !

10. ESTEBAN B. ROYAL ( France ) “Elka”
Hidden behind this pseudonym is Arthur & Jorge, who asked a few friends to join in for even more fun. Among the happy gang is Jumo, the talented graphic designer who signed the sleeve design for “Soirée Cocktail”. By all means a joyful electro instrumental !!!

11. LOUIS PHILIPPE ( France ) “Xmas sun”
Originaly released in 1995 for Trattoria ( label of CORNELIUS ), “Xmas sun” is the piece kindly suggested for "Soirée de Noël" by the most talented French man living in London, Monsieur Louis, whose music is always a pure moment of grace. This song was produced by Bertrand BURGALAT.

12. REAL CARIOCA ( Spain ) “L’Obsite”
With this warm Bossanova instrumental, Real Carioca obviously wants to make us believe that Santa is, in fact, coming from a beach of Copacabana... Here is a bit of sunshine for your cold Christmas Eves !

13. REMINGTON SUPER 60 ( Norway ) “Christmas song for Melanie” [ Goddbye remix ]
Originally created for a CD ep dedicated to Christmas, this nice pop song written by this promising Norwegian band, was remixed by Andy & Simon Hyplar who turned it into a spacy electropop tune.
